A SHOWCASE of work by Steve Schapiro entitled Heroes opens next month at the ATLAS Gallery, London. The exhibition captures the photographer’s celebration of heroes from the worlds of film, politics, art, sport and music. It will also include some rarely seen portraits of the late David Bowie.
The showcase starts with the 1960s, also known as the golden age of photojournalism, capturing key moments from the Civil Rights Movement up to Robert Kennedy on the campaign trail in 1968.
Meanwhile 1974 gives way to Schapiro’s ingenious collaboration with David Bowie. Some never before exhibited photographs of the musician will be on display for the first time to coincide with the new book, Bowie: Photographs by Steve Schapiro recently published by powerHouse Books.
